Listen to Patty Waters' full performance at Le Guess Who? 2016

Fri Dec 1st

Mystical jazz singer Patty Waters gave a rare live performance at Le Guess Who? 2016. Leading up to her Two Day Residency at Cafe OTO, London (December 6 & 7), we are now able to share the important recordings of her performance.

Line-up:
Patty Waters: Vocals
Burton Greene: Piano (original Patty Waters pianist + Albert Ayler)
Tjitze Vogel: Bass
Barry Altschul: Drums (Paul Bley, Kenny Drew, Chick Corea, Annette Peacock)

About Patty Waters:
A staple artist of radical 60s free jazz label ESP-Disk, Patty Waters’s sheer gravitas and mysticism as a vocalist charmed the likes of Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and Chick Corea. For the past decades, her influence has spread far beyond the realms of avant-garde and jazz: rock icons such as Patti Smith, Diamanda Galás, Thurston Moore and Lydia Lunch are all huge fans. Despite performing few and far between since the 70s, Waters’s voice remains a lifetime-purging testament to the power of human expression.

Recorded by Marc Broer at Le Guess Who? on Sunday, 13 November 2016. Recordings made in cooperation with VPRO / Vrije Geluiden.
