Anastasia Coope Curated by Animal Collective Sunday Nearly a hundred years after the birth of surrealism in Europe, folk artist Anastasia Coope is keeping it alive and well in upstate New York. Both disruptive and whimsical, this nineteen-year-old painting student places her work in the legacy of Andre Breton’s manifesto - accessing the subconscious through juxtaposition. In her case, it is her voice that is piled up to amount to a cherubic choir; despite only having begun exploring music during the COVID lockdown, her 2021 debut EP, ‘Seemely’, displays a deep understanding of her sonic calling.
