Les Filles de Illighadad

Curated by Animal Collective

It was at Le Guess Who? 2016 that Niger quartet Les Filles de Illighadad made their European debut - and, six years later, after incessantly touring the world, they are back to Utrecht with a brand new record, 2021’s critically praised ‘At Pioneer Works’. Founded in Illighadad by solo guitarist Fatou Seidi Ghali and vocalist Alamnou Akrouni (and soon joined by guitarists Amaria Hamadalher and Abdoulaye Madassane), their music draws on local sounds, ancient chants, and desert guitar, launching Tuareg folk music into a new and thrilling direction.
