Lubomyr Melnyk

Friday 20:50 - 21:40

Lubomyr Melnyk doesn’t like being called a composer; ‘I don’t know what I am’, he says. But the seasoned Ukrainian pianist certainly brought something novel to the instrument, with which he fell in love at an early age; ‘continuous music’. The thought of composing in a flowing, improvisational form, using the sustain pedal to create echo and reverb, came to him in Paris, while playing for experimental choreographer Carolyn Carlson’s dance company. It has been his defining trait as a performer since – only behind being considered the fastest piano player in the world.
