Soul maverick Swamp Dogg has released his new album ‘Love, Loss and Auto-Tune’ via Joyful Noise Recordings. Although Jerry Williams Jr. said goodbye to the life of a conventional soul artist long ago, he has really taken a new direction with ‘Love, Loss and Auto-Tune’.

At the age of 75, Williams Jr. investigates the possibilities of incorporating autotune and electronic music into classical southern soul. In an interview with The 405, Swamp Dogg talks about the development of soul music anno 2018, working with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and his sometimes dark sense of humor. Stream the album in full below.

"I like the sound of what was being done and I wanted to do an album that people would be familiar with but wouldn’t expect, and I couldn’t do it with my writing, because my writing remains the same and – I get a little big-headed when I say most of my songs are impeccable whether they sell or not – so good songs people know I’m coming with, but I needed something to put me in the competition." - Swamp Dogg in conversation with The 405

Swamp Dogg will perform at Le Guess Who? 2018 together with a.o. Neneh Cherry, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Lonnie Holley feat. Nelson Patton, Georgia Anne Muldrow & The Righteous, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Serpentwithfeet, Sons of Kemet XL, and many more.
