Siti Muharam - Live at Le Guess Who? 2021

Zanzibar singer Siti Muharam performed live at Le Guess Who? 2021, marking her European live debut. In 2020, she received the prestigious Songlines Awards for African Artist of the Year following the release of her album 'Siti of Unguja'. Now, Songlines premieres the concert film of Siti Muharam's performance at Le Guess Who?, featuring three tracks from the same album.

On Zanzibar singer Siti Muharam’s shoulders rests the legacy of her great-grandmother, taarab music legend Binti Saad. Saad is credited as a true trailblazer, being the first woman in East Africa to record her music in an album ever. Now, her great-granddaughter showcases her will to keep her pioneering spirit alive, by mixing traditional sensibilities with more heady, contemporary influences.

"Soulful Zanzibari singer Siti Muharam, great-granddaughter of the renowned taarab vocalist Siti Binti Saad, introduced her very own twist to the flux of African, Middle Eastern and South Asian traditions coursing through her sublime debut offering, Siti of Unguja: Romance Revolution on Zanzibar, released via On The Corner in 2020" - Songlines
