Untitled is our newest satellite program, in which we explore the many artistic expressions and perspectives of our artists, as well as the carefully curated art and design exhibitions by fellow partner organizations happening in Utrecht during Le Guess Who?.

Along with exploring the festival program, visitors of Le Guess Who? 2019 can also immerse themselves in various activities during the day throughout the city of Utrecht, including the ‘Untitled’ program.

Untitled made its debut as part of Le Guess Who? 2018. We're eager to expand the programming to include more daytime activities that provide artists the opportunity to also express themselves via non-musical projects, while continuing to expand on collaborations with cultural organizations and institutions in the city of Utrecht, as well as working with like-minded international partners.

This year, Untitled will include a three-day film festival, featuring the work of groundbreaking film and documentary directors; exhibitions from Icelandic embroidery artist James Merry, and South-African visual/multimedia-artist Gabrielle Goliath; a sonic healing session by spiritual jazz artist Angel Bat Dawid; and, in collaboration with Kickstarter, live interviews and print exhibitions hosted by The Creative Independent and local print studio Kapitaal.

The program for Le Guess Who?’s 13th edition, which takes place 7-10 November at a wide variety of venues across the city of Utrecht, is now completed with the announcement of the ‘Untitled’ program. A statement from the festival’s artistic director, Bob Van Heur:

“Untitled provides us with the opportunity to further contextualize our festival program, in collaboration with several cultural partners in Utrecht, as well as international artists and makers. As a visitor, you can shape your own quest in search of new sounds. Our program organically expands into the fields of visual art, film, photography, documentary, and public talks and conversations. It makes us able to present even more different creative ideas and perspectives.”

In-depth collaborations
Expanding on Untitled’s 2018 program, this year Le Guess Who? intensifies the collaborations with creative partners based in Utrecht (Centraal Museum, BAK, Kapitaal, and Casco Art Institute: Working For The Commons) and introduces new collaborations with Kickstarter, The Creative Independent, art house cinema Springhaver, Utrecht University (Musicology & Urban Futures Studio), FOTODOK, SPRING Performing Arts Festival, De Utrechtse Boekenbar, IMPAKT, and RAUM.

In collaboration with Centraal Museum, Le Guess Who? will present work from Icelandic visual artist James Merry, as part of Iris van Herpen & Salvador Breed’s curation, as well as an impressive video installation from South-African artist Gabrielle Goliath.

Print studio Kapitaal will transform into the festival’s official ‘Hang Out’, presenting an extensive program that includes live interviews with festival artists in collaboration with Kickstarter and The Creative Independent, an on-the-spot-created print exhibition, and live radio broadcasts by Stranded FM.

Movie theater Springhaver presents a three-day program with films and documentaries, partly related to artists performing at the festival, including Babylon (Franco Rosso), Black Mother (Khalik Allah), Closer To God (Annette Berger), The Burial of Kojo (Sam Blitz Bazawule), The Devil and Daniel Johnston (Jeff Feuerzeig), Keyboard Fantasies: The Beverly Glenn-Copeland Story (LUCA Productions) and Zerzura (Christopher Kirkley).

In collaboration with  FOTODOK and Casco Art Institute, the festival presents an exhibition with work from Utrecht-based photographer Kevin Osepa (1994), a graduate of HKU University of the Arts Utrecht and recent winner of the ING Unseen Talent Award 2019.
