Lombok Festival

Cycle or walk through Utrecht suburb Lombok's main street, and you're immediately welcomed by Turkish and Moroccan grocery stores, bakeries, the smell of kebab, and huge piles of colorful fruits sold in the streets. Lombok is lively and bustling. The impressive neon-lit mosque, a traditional Dutch mill and a mysteriously beautiful church mark the skyline. Lombok Festival consists of several outdoor and indoor locations, a food market and a musical line-up of Le Guess Who?-curated acts together with local musical talent. All hosted by and organized with residents, non-profit organizations and key figures living and working in Lombok.

“On Friday afternoon we head over to one of Utrecht’s most culturally diverse neighbourhoods – Lombok – for the brand new, and aptly titled, Lombok Festival which plays host to a number of live performances across nine locations with a focus on local musicians. We catch the wonderful Dutch/Moroccan singer Karima el Fillali performing spoken word and singing with accompaniment by masterfully plucked qanûn courtesy of Iraqi musician Jamil al Asado in the beautiful Antoniuskerk. We’re also treated to delicious local food and a number of dance performances at an exciting food market just next to the Utrecht suburb’s neon-lit central Mosque.” - The Skinny (2017)
